Ang Pikon Ay Laging Talo

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Have you read the news lately? This one is about the confrontation which happened during the hearing for the libel case lodged by Mike Arroyo against Jake Macasaet and Malaya. Kaya sila isinusuka ng taumbayan ay dahil sa kayabangan nila. Kaya nga ba naniniwala ako na madali talaga maging tao pero mahirap magpakatao lalo pa kung mukha ka ng baboy, hehe. Ika pa nga ni pareng Clark sa Smallville eh, "anybody could be a father but it would take special skills and abilities to be a dad".

Kung ako ke Arroyo, napakadali naman gumawa ng letter to the editor eh di ba? Kung di siya marunong gumawa eto bigyan ko siya ng template, copy-paste na lang niya.

To the Editor:

This is in response to the article written by one of your columnists regarding the foundation’s failure to act on a request for assistance sought by a certain blah..blah.

While it’s true that the foundation caters to charitable requests, the foundation is not awashed with money. Each peso we have likewise came from generous sponsors of the foundation and some contributions also sought by the foundation every now and then. So, when one of my staff told them that we have no money. Indeed, it is true that we don’t have money because the funds we have in our possession are already allocated to some other beneficiaries.

In the meantime, when my executive assistant promised a P100,000 assistance we didn’t realized that the patient would be requiring much more than that. As your columnist ably pointed out and a visit by one of my staff at the hospital where the patient is undergoing medical treatment revealed, the patient is spending close to P50,000 a day for her medical needs alone.

That is why in the end, we referred the matter to the PCSO which, in our opinion, can be of more assistance to the patient given her long-term medical needs. We, at the foundation meanwhile would just monitor the case from time to time and give financial support whenever possible.

In behalf of the foundation, I humbly apologize for my staff’s failure to clearly explain the matter to the patient and to their family. Likewise, we hope that with this letter, we have clarified the foundation’s source of funding and sometimes failure to act at once regarding other requests for assistance.

Thank you very much and please do not hesitate to support further the foundation and provide suggestions how we can further improve our operation in providing assistance to our poor and less fortunate brothers and sisters.

Eh ano kung pakitang-tao lang pala ang letter mo, at least you defended yourself and made yourself clear through a more civilized and educated manner. Hindi yung naturingan ka pa namang abugado, tapos hahamunin mo ng suntukan yung abugado ng kalaban mo sa loob pa mismo ng court room at habang nakasalang ka sa witness stand. You don’t fight fire with fire, it would only make matters worse. Like what GMA did when she issued EO 464, CPR, and placed the nation under the state of emergency just when the country is commemorating the anniversary of the first people power.

An Open Letter to the Members of Congress

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Dear Members of Congress:

Each one of you who serve in Congress took an oath:

”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the … against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

A Promise to God

You promised us – you promised God— to defend the Constitution.

The Constitution Now Needs Defending

Has not a disturbing pattern emerged? From what we reliably know,… a pattern of disregard for the law and of presidential power-grabbing?
-You’ve been entrusted by the people … Have you considered that your betrayal of that trust –in failing to rise to the defense of our … constitutional democracy—might reasonably be regarded as treason?

The Oath Does Not Allow You to Weigh the Cost

An honorable person, taking an oath …risks all to fulfill his oath. But you –members of both parties—are treating other considerations as more important. Those of you who .. face a political difficulty in that the assault on the Constitution comes from a president of your own party. It’s not easy opposing your own party’s leadership. But your oath gives you no honorable choice but to defend the Constitution. It does not allow you to defend such a president against the Constitution. It does not allow you to yield to the temptation to ingratiate yourself with power at the cost of the Constitution. You are obliged, by that oath, to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Even if that risks your losing your present proximity to great political power.

Your Choice: Which Will It Be?

But the oath does not enforce itself. It requires either your honor in fulfilling your promise, or our wrath in driving from office those who break their oath.

We, the undersigned citizens … , would like to ask you: Which will it be? Are you going to confront this apparent pattern of presidential lawlessness by conducting investigations and following them wherever your oath of office may require you to go? Or are we going to have to find other political leaders to protect our freedom under the rule of law?

[Readers are encouraged to circulate this open letter as a petition to Congress.]
